turning toward the light
About

Veronika Sprague is an award-winning editor and ghostwriter, writing coach, and closet author, whose main desire is to bring hope and light to a darkening world through deep and gripping stories.Determined to pursue a career in the publishing industry, Veronika started her own editing business while still in college, and ventured into the world of online publishing. Within a few years, she had worked her way into a Managing Editor position with a small Christian publisher and earned a USA Best Book Award for her ghostwritten nonfiction title. To date, she has worked on hundreds of manuscripts across multiple genres including women's, YA, juvenile, contemporary, speculative, fantasy, and Christian fiction, as well as several memoirs, devotionals, and theological nonfiction titles.
Past notable clients include award-winning authors Dr. Rebecca Price Janney, Kelley Rene, Rochelle D. Carter, and Caryl McAdoo; fantasy author L.B. Graham; and short story authors B.D. Lawrence and Sandi MarLisa.
Most recently, Veronika has come alongside the award-winning Palm Branch Publishing as Editor-in-Chief, where she curates, edits, and guides dozens of short story authors on their way to publication in their anthologies. Her first anthology, INTRIGUE: Stories of Mystery & Transcendence, won 3rd Place in the 2026 BookFest Awards.
While she will consider any genre except LGBT and romance, Veronika's particular specialties include literary and contemporary fiction, women's fiction, children and YA fiction, speculative and fantasy fiction, Christian fiction (with "grit"), and nonfiction titles such as memoir, biography, and inspirational / Christian.Helping an author develop their unique Voice is Veronika's main passion and focus. She also pays special attention to pacing, realism, and character consistency (making sure the characters always act and sound like themselves, and helping their "evolution" to grow realistically). For nonfiction, an engaging voice and readability are her main focuses, since nonfiction authors don't have the advantage of having a killer plot to keep the reader moving through a difficult narrative voice. Veronika is now also offering Coaching sessions, where she comes alongside budding writers to help hone their voice and skills even though they don't have a manuscript written yet. (If you do, and want assistance and guidance as you write new drafts of it, ask about Book Coaching.)
Overall, Veronika feels her purpose in the industry is to help point others to the Light, the hope that God bestows upon every part of His Creation, and allows us to find.
Writing and creating beauty is just one way we can offer that Light to others.

Editing Services
My editing philosophy: I'm here to help you, the newbie, the mom, the dad, the shiny new but shaky entrepreneur to get on your feet. The hardest part of publishing your own work, or querying an agent, or grappling with designers, or sending out all those darn query letters to the publishing houses is (say it with me) FUNDING.I don't want to make it harder on you to accomplish your dreams by forcing you to decide between a good edit or a good book cover, between a much-needed proofread or a way to fund your graphic design and promotions.So. Yes, my prices are way below a lot of the competition. In fact, I've always sought to give my clients the most bang for their buck, and I intend to keep doing so, even with the rising cost of, well, everything. (Don't believe me? Just take a look at the Editorial Rates on the-efa.org/rates, and you'll see just how way under-budget my services are compared to "industry standards." Consider it my gift to you!)* NOTE: All prices listed are for ONE service. If TWO or more are needed, a custom/discounted price will be discussed.

Clients & Testimonials
...and more!"Five stars! Veronika’s wisdom was invaluable to me in the publishing of my middle-grade fantasy book. Her insights into characterization and plot really helped me with the final touches necessary to turn my manuscript into a work of art. I highly recommend her editorial skills! Veronika helped me with a line edit and proofread. Her meticulous care for each step went above and beyond my expectations. She respected me and my choices as an author and still graciously pushed for my book to be the best it possibly could. Thanks so much, Veronika!" - Heidi Breton, author of THE BALLAD OF THE BADGER KING series
